The First Big Day

It was the first Cross Country meet for the season. There was an air of excitement around the household
the night before.

As Matthew and myself head off to set the course in the morning we both commented on how perfect it was. A fresh chill to the air and a
spectacular sun, rising,  as it burnt through the smoke haze and morning fog.

By 9:00am  the course was set and we were ready to run.  The turn out was fantastic for our first meet of the season. We estimated over 100 athletes.  Like clockwork the Under 6, 7 and 8’s head off on their 500metre run right on 9:30.  Thirty seven of them in all, our biggest group of  runners charged off as if they were running a 100 metre sprint.  They were quickly brought back to earth after the first hill.

The day went without a hitch and all age groups were well represented.  It was great to see many familiar faces among the groups plus some new additions from South Melbourne.

A big thanks goes out to the Parents who volunteered  to marshal out on the course.   The event wouldn’t run without them. Every parent that assists on the day goes into an end of year draw for a prize. Alex has taken many great photos, have a look through to see if you can find a photo of yourself. Until next week enjoy.  C and M  Wright.
